Clinic Medication Aide (Boys Ranch)

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinic Medication Aide assists the Clinic licensed nurse(s) in providing safe and ethical medical care for youth in our residential care facilities. The Clinic Medication Aide is responsible for attending to medication needs for residents in our residential services facility and coordinating services for these residents that are offered through the Medical Clinics on the Waco Campus and MCH Boys Ranch. This position requires strong assessment skills and must be able to successfully handle multiple tasks and display flexibility in adapting to changing conditions.

The Clinic Medication Aide must exhibit the intellectual and emotional maturity required to work with youth who have behavioral issues and difficulty relating to others due to developmental delays, mental health needs and trauma. This position requires respect and compassionate understanding for the youth in care and the ability to balance the need for nurture and structure in the work with youth. The Clinic Medication Aide must have the ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with youth and co- workers, effectively communicate with others, solve problems and regulate their own behavior in all situations. The Clinic Medication Aide must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the completion of medication assessment of new residents at admission in compliance with agency policy.
  • Administer medication to youth in MCH care.
  • Complete on-going checks of medical consenter documentation to ensure documentation is current and complete.
  • Assist in the preparation for psychotropic medication reviews, as well as providing support and assistance both during and after medication reviews.
  • Work with child-care staff to ensure the provision of medical and dental medication for each resident is as ordered by physicians and dentists.
  • Assist in training in medication administration and documentation as needed.
  • Work with residential care teams to complete monthly checks of medication closets within the homes to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Perform duties in compliance with state and federal laws, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and applicable licensing, contracts, and accreditation standards.
  • Serve as a liaison with medical providers.
  • Coordinate with the pharmacy and Clinic team to meet accepted practices and legal requirements for the receipt, tracking and distribution of prescribed medications.
  • Maintain required documentation of Clinic records for medical, pharmacy and dental services.
  • Participate in medication audits as assigned and report findings to Director of Clinic
  • Learn and effectively use the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model of care.
  • Manage agency funds, resources and equipment according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained.
  • Complete medical record filing, mail pick up and sorting.
  • Complete other clinic assignments as delegated.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a professional position that may require more than the normal 40-hour work week. Duties are performed on the Waco Campus and the MCH Boys Ranch. An automobile for in and out of town travel is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal automobiles for approved business purposes. A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position.

EDUCATION/ LICENSURE

A valid license as a Certified Medication Aide or a Certified Nurses Aid as verified by Texas Health and Human Services is required.

TRAINING

Training hours must be completed in pre-service and annually to comply with licensing, contracts and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.

OTHER

The hours of operation are 3pm-11pm. The Clinic Medication Aide must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, car insurance, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references.
