Campus Safety Specialist (Evening) PRN

JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist performs a variety of security duties to ensure the safety of residents, employees and visitors on the Waco Campus and provide security assistance at other Waco locations. The Safety Specialist monitors the campus through routine patrols and security checks and provides assistance to program staff when needed. This position involves frequent contact with youth in care, agency employees, other agencies and visitors, and it requires interacting with others in a professional and courteous manner.  The Safety Specialist must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patrol the campus at the established intervals to monitor suspicious activity or traffic violations.
  • Provide security at particular locations or events as assigned
  • Respond to requests for assistance from program staff.
  • Observe vehicles entering the campus.
  • Check campus boundaries and parking areas at the established intervals.     
  • Complete security reports and other required documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with agency policy and applicable laws.
  • Manage agency funds, resources and equipment according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position but may occasionally require time beyond regular hours to complete assignments and workload or to attend special functions and meetings.  Most duties are performed on the Waco Campus, but the duties may require travel to the MCH Boys Ranch or to other locations in the Waco area. MCH provides a vehicle for use by Security staff while on duty. Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal vehicle for approved business purposes if the vehicle assigned to the Security Department is not available.  A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position. 

EDUCATION/LICENSURE

The Safety Specialist must be a licensed or honorably retired Peace Officer in the State of Texas and have at least 5 years of experience in law enforcement.   Experience with the Waco Police Department preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required. 

TRAINING

Training hours must be completed annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.   

OTHER

The Safety Specialist must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references. Firearms needed to provide security will be supplied, maintained, and secured by the Safety Specialist, but must comply with agency policy and procedures, along with licensing and legal requirements.
